Teacher Profile: Mrs. Klein

Klein_Susan_Photo_031014Recently, I had the opportunity to interview one of VPSA’s newest teachers, Mrs. Susan Klein. Mrs. Klein currently teaches three courses remotely from Billings, Mo. In our interview, I was able to ask questions about her teaching experience, favorite hobbies, and more.

Audrey Hurst: What classes are you teaching at Veritas Press Scholars Academy this year?

Susan Klein: Physical Science and Geometry.

AH: How long have you been teaching?

SK: I’ve been homeschooling for 15 years, teaching in co-ops for about 10 years, and I taught in public school for about three years.

AH: How did you come to work at Veritas Press?

SK: Two men from my last church both taught at Veritas Press. They both loved it. Their names are Joost Nixon and Michael Collender.

AH: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of teaching?

SK: I like to play tennis and I like to play the piano.

AH: If you were stranded on a desert island and you only had three items with you, what three things would you want?

SK: Oh, boy. I would want a book called Scaramouche. I would like to take my husband, too. How about an umbrella? I would imagine a desert island is really hot. And then my husband and I could sit under our umbrella and read our book.

AH: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

SK: I would live in Montana. That’s why I moved here!

AH: What is your favorite book and why?

SK: Scaramouche by Rafael Sabatini. It’s so well written and it’s got such a surprise ending. It’s a very good story and I love a good story.

AH: What is your favorite Bible verse?

SK: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

AH: Do you have a favorite memory from this school year?

SK: My favorite memory is when everybody goes on webcam. And when you guys send in your labs, so I get to actually see you all!

AH: Do you have any advice for your students, and the other students at VPSA?

SK: My advice would be to really look through the website, thoroughly, before [the year] starts. Just to see where everything is so you aren’t feeling totally lost on your first day of class.

Mrs. Klein, thank you for taking the time to chat with us! We are lucky to have you as a teacher here at VPSA!
