Media Reviews: Favorite Moments from Mockingjay

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One was released in November. It is the third movie in the Hunger Games series. The movie features Katniss Everdeen, a former victor, as she deals with the loss of her co-victor Peeta and the rebellion facing Panem. Rising to the role of Mockingjay, Katniss faces a battle between her internal conflict and the war raging outside. Stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elisabeth Banks, and the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

The Hanging Tree
Jennifer Lawrence sang a beautiful rendition of The Hanging Tree. With the Lumineer’s original tune, the song was given a very rural feel. Combine that with the rebel chants? It was an epic moment.

Tree Climbing
This was of my favorite add-ons in this film. Johanna’s district, District 7, definitely reflects her personality. When the rebels scurry up the trees to avoid peacekeeper gunfire, only to blow up the ground below them? Priceless.

Everything Effie Was In
Effie Trinket, an addition to the movie (requested by the author, Suzanne Collins), definitely gave an uplifting twist to several scenes. Seeing her as a fish out of water added quite a bit of humor to the film.

“I liked you better sober!”
So much sass. There is nothing better than a good scene between Haymitch and Effie. Hopefully we have a lot to look forward to in the next film.
